What is a dual credit?

Dual credits are college courses delivered by college instructors to secondary school students. If successful, students will get credit applied to their high school transcript and credit applied to their college transcript. There are a variety of different delivery models for dual credits: college-delivered at a college or secondary school and team-taught at a college or secondary school.

Who can take a dual credit?

Dual credits are designed to help secondary students complete their high school diplomas and make successful transitions to college and/or apprenticeship programs. The primary focus is on those students facing the biggest challenges in graduating. This includes:

  • Disengaged and underachieving students with the potential to succeed, but are at risk of not graduating from high school.
  • Students who are part of a Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) program.
  • Students participating in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP).
