Course Description

Students interested in pursuing a career in this Construction Sector trade will begin their career in the regional Accelerated Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program. Students will enroll in this program in their final year of secondary school. Students will attend Durham College two days a week to work toward their Level One apprenticeship training, and will attend their cooperative education placement three days a week. Students will potentially earn two Dual Credits toward their high school diploma. Modules in Electrical Level One training may include Electrical Theory, Electronics, Installation Methods and Instrumentation. Students will be registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and with the Ontario College of Trades. Students will be registered as an apprentice with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and with the Ontario College of Trades. This is a “Compulsory” trade which means that a person performing this work must have either a Certificate of Qualification or be registered as an apprentice. It is also a “Red Seal” Trade. The “Red Seal” Certificate of Qualification means that the license is recognized in all Canadian provinces.
