Course Description

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of capturing visual images with a camera. Instruction will consider both the technical and visual components of the photograph as well as basic image manipulation techniques. Students will receive instruction in the use of digital single lens reflex (DSLR) camera. The cameras used will require the student to manually adjust shutter speed and aperture. Critical skills in understanding and interpreting photographs will also be taught. Assignments will include the use of composition, depth of field, portrait shooting on location, studio photography, and image editing. This course introduces the student to camera and image manipulation, from the camera to software applications such as Adobe PhotoShop, Bridge, Camera Raw, and printing output.
